Millennium Date Change Readiness

The firm has undertaken extensive renovations of its various date-dependent systems, including those relying on embedded chips, and as of November 11, 1999 discloses its readiness for the millennium date change as follows:

  • Non-Microsoft operating system for network and internet facilities, updated through late 1999.
  • Use of mixed operating systems for workstations and peripherals, including printers and modems with built-in intelligence (peripherals other than de-brained "Win-only" ones).
  • Redundant and partially redundant systems.
  • Data backups in electronic and other media.
  • Installation of compliant client software for access to legal and other information databases.
  • Availability of a firm-wide license for non-Windows productivity suite for quick installation in the event of certain failures.
  • Hardware and software backups of communications and internet access systems through late 1999 (and beyond = update 11N0).

Despite these and other precautions, certain risks remain, such as those resulting from the firm's reliance on independent suppliers of products from coffee to ink and from a potential limited availability of certain supplies necessary for the operation of the firm. In addition, communication and internet access systems are vulnerable to the potential lack of a millennium date change readiness of the firm's services providers.
